Mount Gulaga
We acknowledge the Yuin people who are the traditional custodians of this land and we pay respect to the elders past and present of the Yuin nation and extend the respect to other Aboriginal people present.
We are honoured to live in the beautiful National Trust village of Central Tilba under the watchful eye of Minga Gulaga (Mother Mountain). Gulaga and the surrounding landscape have great spiritual significance to local Aboriginal people, particularly Aboriginal women.
She keeps her youngest son Najanuga close by at her feet so he is always within reach and she she can look after him. According to Yuin story, Gulaga is the sacred birthplace of the Yuin people and the landscape itself that surrounds the mountain, which is the Central Tilba, Tilba Tilba area, is the traditional birthing place for all the South Coast women.
